 Achieving synchronized presentation of the current question across multiple players' devices proved to be a significant challenge. Ensuring that all participants were on the same page while seamlessly progressing through the game required meticulous synchronization techniques.

 Crafting an intuitive user experience that facilitated smooth real-time gameplay without causing confusion posed an additional challenge. Balancing engaging gameplay dynamics with clarity in question presentation and response handling demanded careful design considerations.

Collaborated on a project with Theorem Inc. involving the redesign of the Portland Trail Blazers' web presence. Translated a provided Sketch design document into a responsive React application, employing Sass for styling.

 Overcoming challenges presented by the complexity of integrating the NBA API. The project's structure required numerous API calls, some involving multiple endpoints. The use of JSON with 2 and 3 letter keys added to the complexity, necessitating research to decipher their meanings and values.

 Dealing with endpoints returning data in the older JSONP format, incompatible with the standard JavaScript Fetch command. Overcoming this obstacle required extensive exploration of the API documentation and external resources.

Stable Local Development Environment for Shopify:

 Creating a consistent local development environment for Shopify posed a challenge. Despite familiarity with Ruby on Rails and Liquid templating, Shopify's tools for local development proved intricate, leading to unexpected results like image loading issues.

 Ensuring the client's smooth onboarding to Shopify required effective education on using the platform. Multiple Zoom calls were conducted to guide the client through the administrative console, enabling them to confidently manage product imports and site content updates.

 The distributor's unique approach of providing a JavaScript file for new release content presented a hurdle. Absence of an API required a creative solution. Importing and hiding generated content, followed by crafting a custom script to extract and style the data, ensured a cohesive experience.

Initiated a personal passion project aimed at enhancing the experience for parents seeking summer camps in the Portland, Oregon area. Recognizing the need for a more comprehensive and organized resource, the goal was to create a platform similar to Redfin or Zillow, tailored specifically for summer camps.

 Overcoming the challenge of non-uniform data for camp details, including varying information on prices, allowed ages, and camp specifics. Standardizing and consolidating these diverse data points proved to be a demanding task. 

 Curating accurate and up-to-date camp information required meticulous data collection and verification efforts. Ensuring that parents had reliable and consistent details for informed decisions presented its own set of challenges.



 Opting to separate actual camps from their providers to improve clarity and user experience introduced a significant organizational challenge. Balancing the presentation of individual camps against the backdrop of broader provider offerings required careful navigation.

This site was created using NextJs and Sanity.io for the backend. It was created to be the home of a Portland based radio theater style podcast.

The largest hurdle was learning Sanity.io’s groq query system that they use instead of a RESTful API. Overall the documentation was effective and straightforward. I was able to get up and running with the tool within a day.

Developed the kparty app to enable real-time collaboration among friends in creating a karaoke playlist sourced from YouTube videos. The app fosters a collaborative environment where users can collectively curate their karaoke experience. Additionally, users can play the playlist in presentation mode on another device for a seamless karaoke session.

 Overcoming the challenge of effectively managing the state of the selected playlist. The app required seamlessly transitioning between tasks like searching for songs, playing playlist videos, and switching between playlists. Juggling these tasks while maintaining user experience demanded a strategic approach to state management.

 Tackling the issue of switching between different sections of the app based on user actions. Implementing a mechanism that utilized URL parameters and forced page reloads to dynamically change what the user was presented with required creative problem-solving to maintain a smooth user journey.

This was a capstone project for my React course I took at Epicodus Coding Boot Camp. The idea for this site was a social network where users who garden can sign up for an account, search for a pod or group to join based on their neighborhood, and then review and post offers of extra produce they would like to trade.

This site was built with React, Redux, React-Router, Redux-firebase and Sass. One of the early obstacles for this site revolved around managing the login-state provided by Firebase, as the page would flash and behave erratically until a login-state was officially returned from Firebase. To combat this, I researched the redux-firebase library and discovered a hook that waits to render the page until the login credentials were received.
